I believe we need to provide useful and meaningful content, so that visitors will share your content with others. Therefore, ultimately we are working towards word of mouth marketing, which is always free.
The idea is spend more resources on content and you are more likely to get free word of mouth marketing.

I'm struggling with this concept too. I'm really good and writing new content but marketing and promotion is tough. I'm trying to follow Gary Vee's tips to get the word out about my business.
I don't agree with this philosophy. I think content is equally important as the marketing because if your content is not up to the mark then your site will not rank on the search engine. You should update your site's content regularly by adding something new or more interesting.
Its not really about the formula but more about how your brand is perceived. The way you position your brand will determine how effective your marketing efforts will be.

I don't agree with the ratio as well. I believe content is very important as well. It's more of a 50-50 to me

I am of the opinion that the percentage of content should be higher. Content plays one of the most important roles in all types of marketing.
