Is PR worthless? Maybe not (because it can provide a hint of a site`s popularity), but it is certainly not a reliable measure.
Also, the www has changed dramatically since PR was introduced. Search engines has changed, algorithms have changed, and the relative impact of linking has changed.

True, many people are still concerned about PR, eventhough the # itself is not a real time measure of a website popularity. PR may be an ok indicator, but people should not worry about the number... but instead focus on practices that (in the past) have helped increase PR. In other words... practice sound web design, linking, and site promotion activities, and site populatiry will follow. Is PR worthless? PR was a big deal 5 years ago, but today, it is just one measurement among hundreds. I just wrote about this on the osC forums, after a thread containing my innocent question about widgets was highjacked by a PR argument.
PageRank is after all, a metric. Do get on and do what is right and not game it.

While it`s true that Alexa is notoriously inaccurate, so is every other traffic ranking service.
