Is this idea viable?

Well this idea has been running through my mind for a long time now and I seem to think that 2008 will be the right time for me to start. Basically, I live in an environment where we love to eulogise the dead. When you open up the daily papers to read, half of what you`ll see in the papers are obituaries of people who have been dead for the past 10, 15, 20+ years while the rest are recent deaths. So, I have often thought to myself that if people love to remember the dead, then it is only appropriate to provide another means to keep their memories forever. I decided that the internet will be a good avenue to provide this service. I don`t know if you think i`m morbid or if this is a good idea? However, i`d like to know your thoughts regarding this idea. If you think this idea is viable, what and what do i need to include on the website?

Hi, thanks for your thoughts on this idea. What I have in mind is an internet service where relatives of departed loved ones can keep the memories of the life and times of the departed soul alive. What do you think?

I`ve seen this done and it`s so much better than obits.  A friend of mine recently passed away after a long battle with cancer and his wife used a website to chronicle his struggles and to set up a phenomenal eulogy site after his passing. It had pictures of him from childhood to just before his death.  It had a signature page where you could share memories of him and it was amazing.  This was all part of a service or hospice community website.  You could have something here.

This idea was discussed in depth in the book smart start ups. It is an intersting concept and the book may offer you more ideas for it. More like a "living Memorial"

Funeral homes are already providing a service like this. My brother passed away a 2 years ago and a Memorial website was provided for us to post things on, and for people to post their condolences... I`m not sure if it costs money to keep it up or if it was included.
 
I would check out local funeral providers to see what they are offering.

I like this idea.  In fact, when my husband`s grandfather passed, I was directed to a website to post my thoughts about him.  There were tons of messages, including from those who were not local and could not attend the funeral service.  I know it`s still posted and he died almost a year ago.  I`m not sure how often I would reference the site, but I`m sure my husband and his immediate family look at it often for memory sake and as a document as to how much people cared about him.  I say "keep at it".

thank you for all your kind words. However, I`ve been trying to locate a vendor who can design my company`s website. I don`t know if Yahoo small business websites will be good for this idea since it`s going to be more of a database website. Will appreciate any relevant information on this. Thank you once more.
