My advice to any startup founder looking to raise a round while based in America is to look outside of America. Go and raise your round with Northern European investors that are looking for interesting deal flow. I have sat with most renowned VC's in Europe and there is little to no stigma on the fact that you are in America. Actually, when they see your burn rate, they are pleasantly surprised. The terms you will get from investors outside of America are far more founder friendly then those from American investors who dominate the current deal flow and will ask for strict terms (anti-dilution and liquidation preference) while taking a sizeable amount of equity.
