Working with someone else's trademark

Hello everyone,
I have been developing and idea for a toy recently and I'm not sure as to what I should do about bringing it to the public. The toy is based off of a trademarked logo for a professional sports team and doesn't include any novel features that would qualify it for a utility patent. Would I have to obtain a design patent? If not how would you approach a company with an idea using their own trademark? Or is this impossible?
Thank you for your time!
