Prototype in the energy sector

Hello!
I have developed a system to produce clean and renewable energy and I have made some drawings (but of poor quality) of the project. I have presented the idea to some friends of mine, who happen to be engineers, and they have told me that theoretically, it looks like it could work, but the only way to know for sure is to build a prototype. The problem is this: the project is of considerable size, so it would be very costly. I am not an engineer or a specialist in anything remotely related to science (I just love it, but never studied in the area), and my engineer friends are not specialized in the areas required to build such a prototype, so I'm not even sure the system would work at all.
My questions are as follows:
I do not know anybody who specializes in energy generation/mechanical/electrical engineering, and I do not know how to contact these experts. Any ideas how I could do this?
My other question is: if I did want to have this prototype built based on my sketches, what would you suggest my next steps be? Are there companies that could fulfill such an order?
I really appreciate any suggestion or comment you may have.
Cheers
