Forum posting is helpful in creating back-links for your website. But make sure you are contribution on the topic relevant to your niche and don't use duplicate content in your post. You should make your content informative to provide better information. If your are commenting in the wrong section with low quality content that could be a big problem for your account or your website. You could be banned from from the forum or if google update its algorithm and found your link are irrelevant then your site also could be penalized. So make sure whatever you're doing should be as per google guidelines.
