How do I redirect http:\mysite.com to http:\www.mysite.com?
This seems to be a plus in SEO even though both addresses get to my index.html file, but when I try a redirect line in the .htaccess file, nothing happend.
Ideas? Is this really a good move to make?
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]
But back to my question, is there an SEO purpose in doing this redirect? After all the browsers get to the same home page whether or not the 301 redirect is in place (or is this only for the benefit of the search engines?)
htaccess is used for a huge list of things that can be applied to your site, besides just passwords. url rewriting is a big one, which not only makes nicer looking urls, but search engines actually prefer that you use them.
