Malpractice Insurance for information technologists

I consulted with a few business counselors and only one has suggested some kind of insurance vehicles for information technologists.  I am an experienced network administrator and write to inquire if it is common in this industry for IT consultants to `insure` themselves against harm inflicted on a clients network and/or its assets. It is my intention to contract with a local municipal government and have not heard of this elsewhere.  It is always good to seek advice from a variety of sources. Guidance sought.
