Wal-vert vs Alavert

Walgreens [drug store] attempted to register their trademark for "Wal-vert" which is a generic form of Claritin. Wyeth [drug manufacturer] sells the same drug under the mark "Alavert." Do you think consumers would be confused into thinking that both Wal-vert and Alavert come from the same source - or that the two sources of the drug are somehow connected or affiliated?

I go out of my way to not be a Walmart (no hyphen in the name any longer) customer so that really didn`t cross my mind at all.

And copying the look of brand name packaging is nothing new - I imagine countless people buy a generic brand inadvertantly, thinking they grabbed the name brand. Is this deceptive practice or just smart marketing?
