Wikipedia has maintained its quality of work so high that people take it as a primary source of information about any given topic.
Many people search exclusively for wikipedia pages. That's why it comes higher in most of google's search results.

I have been wondering the same thing. It seems unfair that the rest of us struggle to get positions on our narrowed down topics when Wikipedia can rank high on any nonspecific topic - even though the information there is not always very detailed or even accurate. Just my two cents anyway.

Its a information site with rich content that could be a big reason. But its not sure that it always get rank high basically it depends on the query that user put in the search bar. If you can create quality backlinks then you can also beat wikipedia ranking.
