LLC Legal and Tax Questions

Does anyone know if my LLC can be a member or own interests in another
LLC?  Would the profits still only be taxed once at the personal
level?  Has anyone here ever structured a business like
this?

I am in a similar position. I am trying to figure out which business structure is best for me. I am a solo inventor working on a new product for market. I am dealing with manufacturers and down the road expect to be selling to the public. Can anyone tell me, what is the best structures and which will keep my company liability separate from my personal assets?
