E-commerce (electronic commerce or EC) is the buying and selling of goods and services, or the transmitting of funds or data, over an electronic network, primarily the internet. These business transactions occur either as business-to-business, business-to-consumer, consumer-to-consumer or consumer-to-business.

    1. Ecommerce websites give customers information

Not everyone is comfortable with buying something without knowing if it is worth their hard-earned money. While the best source of product information in a regular bricks-and-mortar store comes from whatever is printed on the back of a package (and sometimes store’s employees), a website can give customers images, videos, brand descriptions, promotions, product details, reviews, and more. According to Adweek, 81% of shoppers conduct online research before making purchase decisions. Whether customers are buying online or in store, displaying relevant information plays a vital role in persuading them that your product is what they are looking for.

    2. Location and time flexibility

As long as shipping and specific countries’ regulations are not a problem, ecommerce business makes tapping regional and international market possible. A website also runs 24/7, making opening hours and time zones irrelevant. It is good to know that sales increases even when you are asleep. Additionally, by having a store online, you help (prospective) customers avoid miscellaneous costs like gas, parking and commuting time.

    3. Relatively lower costs and competitive pricing

Depends on the size of your business and how much you are willing to invest in your website, the costs to run an online business can be relatively lower than a physical store. Overhead expenses like rent, water, electricity, and repairs either become non-existent or minimized, and thus you are able to offer competitive prices. Should there be such a reduction, make sure to mention that in your product page in order to encourage customers to buy.

    4. Ecommerce websites go hand in hand with social media

There is a good chance that you and your (prospective) customers are already frequent social media users. While your website is where products are stored, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) is where products are marketed. Only owning a physical store limits the ability to connect your product’s value with that of customers, but well-thought and engaging stories and images of your product on their news feed does. Plus, convenient use of the message/comment function equals real-time customer service. Determine the time that customers are most active online and which social media platforms drive the most sales to build and maintain your unique relationship with customers.

When it comes to E-commerce most of the information you will be able to find online is marketing related. Because marketing is the easy part. That’s why almost everybody assumes that all it takes to build an E-commerce operation is good marketing.

    1. Suppliers and supply chain management

You are or plan to be a retailer in an increasingly competitive market. It means a lotto come up with a great idea, drive good traffic and convert it to sales but you can’t do that without the right products, delivered at the right time, with a price the market is willing to pay.

    2. Warehouse operations

Seal the dealwith the suppliers and it’s off to the Warehouse, thatmagical place where online retailers pick products from the shelf, pack themneatly and prepare those products to be delivered.

    3. Shipping and returns

Shipping isusually an outsourced service. The best thing to do,unless you’re swimming in cash and you want to start competing the likes ofFedEx and DHL, is employ one of the shippingproviders andnegotiate your way to a marketable shipping cost.

    6. Marketing and loyalty programs

Loyaltyis really hard to acquire these days. Especiallywhen it comes to ecommerce. Most users will be searching for the lowest priceand buy from whomever the seller is. But you can fight the trend with loyaltyprograms .

These are the most important component of successful E-commerce companies.

As well as selling a physical product, eCommerce can be used to sell digital products, consultations or appointments, or intangibles, making it a flexible solution for all kinds of businesses.

It would be easier for the customers to buy products through online. But
E-commerce is just setting up your online business as if after you launched your store, you're done. No, you are just about to start your online business, what you need to do after you launch it is to introduce it to Google. Google should recognize it in order to make it visible to viewers. It needs SEO.

Electronic commerce, or Ecommerce, which literally means business trading through the Internet, has been around the globe since mid 90s. However, until the recent few years, Ecommerce is getting more and more attention from entrepreneur and consumers, both local and international. One of the main reasons is due to the highly successful operations of some well known names on the Internet, such as eBay, Yahoo and Dell. The sales revenue these companies shown in their annual reports are without doubt, one of the biggest factors why Ecommerce is important in the commercial market nowadays.
