    I disagree 3 way links are very successful as a method to get inbound links to boost PR (page rank). Very favorable to search engines including google. I would be happy to discuss this further after you do some research.Howard

    Random reciprocal links are going to hurt you in two ways: first, if they`re not relevant to your content and offering, they can be flagged by Google and other engines, and second, if they`re not relevant to your users, you`re creating a poor experience, which is a sure fire way to make them one-time visitors.

    Thanks Chuck... I was about to say the same thing. My business offers earthborn & handmade items. When using educated marketing techniques designed to achieve the highest return on my investment, it is not fruitful enough for me to do the work, or pay the cost of being listed on a site offering automotive parts. Sure, I would love to have my site on all websites throughout the web. But really, I have to think of the visitors also. If they see my site ad (links) everywhere, it won`t be long before my business is the butt of a joke.So, when creating reciprocal links, I think you have to measure the audience about to view those links. It doesn`t do my business any good to have a visitor of the automotive parts site to `accidentally` click on my link. Only to have then leave once knowing they are not interested in buying earthborn & handmade products.I think that`s why Google makes it a `crime` to be involved with link farms. Google is doing their best to provide accurate, informative, and directional results to searches of their visitors. If your page ranking raises due to unrelated content, the users of Google will use some other service. That`s not good for Google. Sure you might get away with it for a while, but when it catches up to you... It`s tough to overcome. Be careful out there.

    It is not a crime to link to another site. Reciprocal links should be a part of a e-marketing strategies. I never said that a link exchange or reciprocal linking should be done without discreation or purpose. There is a lot of reading material on this topic in many quality SEO forums. Here is a good one to read:  searchenginewatch.comAgain, if it makes sence I would encourage anyone to contact me who is intrested.Thank you for your candid responces,Howard

    Just a note... I wrote "crime" in quotations. I was hoping to suggest I didn`t mean the literal use of the word, crime. I do understand.

    I still disagree with the premise that link to other sites via exchange is wrong. I do not define linking to affiliates or business that I want to support link farming. Personally I don`t think is wrong to advertise your business on other non-related sites. How many of your competitors are going to add a link to you? As long as you stay clear of "bad neighborhoods" (which is perhaps what you are referring to as link farms), porn, and gambling sites I think it is valid.Unless you feel like supporting Google by paying 10-20$ per click for many top key words only to find yourself a victim of fraud....... Reality.

    Creating links is a waste of time as most sites move cange address have no traffic or cause you to be constantly updating your pages.
    I link to no one except my own sites and pages.
    I do however use a unique username and get thousands of links from google for free. Google  rexiedexie
    tnG=Google+Search&meta=rexiedexie

    There`s nothing inherently wrong with linking to other sites, or even exchanging links between relevant sites. But by simply posting a topic that calls for a link exchange, it`s expected that you`ll receive solicitation from sites that probably have little to nothing to do with you site, and will offer no value to those visiting your site or the linking site. That`s the basic problem with most link exchanges.Now if you`re looking for topically relevant sites with which to exchange a link, there might be some value (and benefit to you), but that didn`t seem to be the original premise.

    Deet Da Deee......  Listen don`t just hear.  Link farms are link farms.  Even DMOZ is irrelevant these days.  The latest information directly from Google is not to link farm generally speaking.Even a two-way reciprocal link with another partner, as most think is beneficial, is no longer advisable.  This links negatively now.In other words, I am in IT as a business, to link to another IT company as mine is a mistake as the average surfer is thinking "so what."  Besides, why would I link to a direct competitor or a similar business in another city.  Like my customer is going to drive to Houston for computer service even though my business is located in St Louis.The way to link is indirectly with a similar like sector.  In other words, only link in vertical markets.  My company is IT service so creating an incoming link with say a distributer of computer related goods is ideal.

    William - Please share with me how you came to the conclusion that DMOZ is irrelevant. I am interested to read any posting or material from any credible SEO blog or site that supports your claim. After site content and properly coded pages (site age is important for Google) all my reading supports the development of inbound links from a variety of methods including reciprocal linking. Jim Westerergren of SEO Fusion and Jim Boykin who I have been reading regularly contradict what you state here.There is a general misunderstanding between reciprocal links and a reciprocal linking programs/software that can potentially link you to "bad neighborhoods". I guess when you boil it down it really only matters what you are comfortable doing and if you are maximizing the results you receive from your website. Regards,Howard
