SBA wanting DOJ files?

The brokage company that I am going through told me that the bank (EastWest Bank) wants me to pull a criminal record from the sherriff office because they can approve me? Is this normal? I told them I had a misdemenor driving accident awhile back (7 years ago).
Anyone heard of this before?

These days, background checks are done for everything from applying for
work at a fast food restaurant to bank loans. I wouldn`t worry if your
record will only reflect an automobile "accident", not some serious felony.

So, disclose your past to them verbally and authorize them to do the
background check with the sheriffs office themselves.

Plus, you should also do your research on them! Check what their track
    record is and so on...

Thanks for the response. I asked the broker that why dont they just pull a department of justice (DOJ) fingerprint file or record themselve. The broker told me that this bank doesnt pull DOJ files? Interesting.
But if this is the only condition that I have to do to get an pre-approval/approval then I guess its not that bad.
