Predicting Ad Revenues For An Internet Business

I`m doing the financials for a startup company that is trying to determine how much ad revenune they will be pulling in. I can`t seem to grasp onto just how much on average they should be making. I`m thinking that they`ll have anywhere from 40,000-50,000 hits/day as a modest number, but their potential is much higher. Anyone have any clue how to determine averages or anything? This part of the business plan is so ambiguous to me.

I have a question to add to the conversation.  I am researching a similar website.  The site I am proposing has no direct competitor... it would be the first of it`s kind in the market I`m working in.  How do I find out what other major sites in the same market are generating from their ad revenue?
