Toy Marketing - Trade Shows, Online Directories?

I`m trying to determine the best value for my dollars in advertising our new educational toys.  There are trades shows we could attend but also wholesale online directories where we could list our company.  Does anyone have experience in determining the best methods for getting a new product out there for the world to see?
