Critique: Myprizo.com PowerPoint Layouts

edited January 2008 in Website Critique
Hi Everyone,
I recently launched my website, myprizo.com.  I design custom PowerPoint layouts/templates for school presentations or that important business pitch.  These are free to use and if you want to be more elegant, there are the premium ones for $2.99 (yes it`s not a typo).
A lot of my competitors charge $49-100 per template and a lot of those designs are not that good.  They package in a bunch of graphics, bar charts, and other useless junk you`ll never use and make you pay for it.  For a college student looking for a layout for a project or an entrepreneur to pay $49 is unrealistic.  Why spend hours making one when you can download it for free in 2mins?
Can you provide some feedback on the website and layout designs?
If any entrepreneur needs help with their PowerPoint, feel free to let me know.  I`d be happy to give back to the community that helps me

I think you did a great job to showcase what you offer in a clean and uncluttered way. The colors are smooth  and it is easy to navigate!

    Tommyjeans,
I like your templates... It`s really a step up from the ordinary ppt templates that come with Power point. I`m assuming all your work is custom made.
Now as for the Joomla template, did you design that yourself? or did you install a template?
I looked at the code and noticed that you still have the Joomla tags... you can delete those if you goto configuration and enter your own keywords.
Just advise. Other than that Im interested on some of your templates.
I need a custom made one for next month and don`t have the time...

    hi there,
Yes all my PPT designs are custom made with my own artwork.
I actually thought I had replaced all the Joomla tags with my own, I guess I missed one.  Are you referring to: meta name = "Generator" content ="Joomla! - Copyright (c) 2005-2007 open source matters. All right reserved..." ?
No, the design of the site itself is not a template, it was also custom made.
Sure, shoot me an email of what you need and i`d be happy to help you come up with something =)
Thx for the heads up on the codes

OK, my first thought were these were really nice templates but my second thought was maybe they are too nice In all seriousness though I could see some of the backgrounds getting in the way of the content itself.

My recommendation would be take a sampling and add some content that a user could page through like they normally would in PPT.

Unless you make it more of a community style system where users submit designs and your revenue is generated primarily from ads I would personally take the ads off completely (even the dog ear). Otherwise great idea and love the execution.

You`re right, some title slide are more graphic intensive then others.  I tried to keep my audience in mind when I made these.  Some people like it simple, others want more it complex.  The actual content slide itself is very simple, either contains a header or footer banner, faded out to make sure the audience is looking at content not design.  Title page is to capture the audience`s attention.  I`ve been meaning to upload the content page as well to show the user the full deck.
I`ll take your suggestion into consideration. My original intentions were to upload a handful of designs to see what kind of interest I get before doing more. I have thousands of designs here to load but didn`t want to waste my time if no one liked them.
That was my phase II plan, to allow users to upload their own designs, once the site picks up traction and traffic.  Again goes back to original plan to see how much interest I receive to continue on.
I took off the peel ad
    thx again!

Nice templates! Y`know what`d be cool, would be if I could click on one
of the templates, then have a "next" and "previous" button so I could
just browse through them without any further clicks back to the side.
If there was a "download this one" option, you could *then* put the
user back at the main site, with that particular template page, where
they could do the downloading or whatever else.
Other than that, I had no problems with the site.

    hi craig,
thats a great feature i didnt really think about actually. i`ll throw that into my phase II plans
    thx!

The first thing I wanted to know was how much it was to have a custom template created for my company. The minimal info you have about it is mid-way down the FAQ page.
I would think your most profitable angle for this site is to create custom templates for money. The free and cheap templates are simply a means to show off your capabilities. I would move an offer for a custom template front and center.
Also, just to echo what was said above, if you are selling something then you should not have third party ads on your site, period. You want the visitor`s money. You do not want them to navigate elsewhere and give someone else their money.
    The site is looking good!

feel free to send me an inquiry and we can discuss your needs offline
the intention of this beta launch to gauge the interests of consumers and so far i`ve gotten 100% positive feedback which is great.  this lets me know to continue moving forward with it.  also it was a side project, i have another company i work on full time.
you are right to a certain extent that my main source of revenue is from my customers however some merchants do offer google ads such as paintballgear.com, amazon.com, buy.com.
now should the ads compete with my store, their prices and quality of product cannot. majority of the time, the ads are for web design and web templates anyways so it has nothing to do with me.
having google adsense on your site can also help with ranking from what i`ve read.
thanks for the comments, drop me an email and we`ll go over your requirements =)tommyjeans1/5/2008 2:23 PM

Even if the ads are not competing with your products they are competing with the money you want to get from your visitors. You don`t want a potential buyer to be ready to purchase and be distracted at the last moment by a compelling ad showing up.

Without having to download one of these templates, does each one come
with a variation for the title page, then for the rest of the slide
layouts (a titlebar for blank, bullet, table, etc.)? I`m just looking
again at some of the images, and they could definitely interfere with
    the content on a 10-page show, y`know?
However, if the second slide--the content slide--has, say, a white
content area or a contrasted color, whatever, then it would make it
easier. If that`s the case, then, although it`d mean a lot of work on
your part, I`d like to be able to see both the title page AND the
content page template. That`d mean 2 slides for each template.
For example, I`m looking at template 10014. It`s very cool, and
certainly attractive. But then again, I do PowerPoint for corporate
customers, and end up having to clean up their mistakes. One of those
is the seeming inability of business people to understand how to
    visually present written content.
Then, to answer some of this, I went to 10016, a free version. I
expected to simply download the thing, since it`s free. Instead, I had
to go through the whole shopping cart and checkout experience. How come
I can`t just click "Download" or "Save to your Computer" and be done
with it? Or, have a checkbox, to collect a number of them, then
    download them all?
Another issue I`m pondering, is how you`re going to make money from
    this. There`s a reason people charge $45 for templates. I`m a big
fan of lower prices, and with our signal flags we`re certainly WAY
below the current typical price range. However, we`re building a sort
of boutique or "life style" business, where a few orders go a long way.
We have ideas about how to expand to a fully developed enterprise, down
the road, but not for now.
So our extreme low prices are good for us, but don`t work in a standard
business model. Is that your intent? Where`s your growth or expansion
pathway, then? I`m just curious. You don`t have to explain it if you don`t want to.

    hi Craig,
yes the content pages will have a white background that will not interfere with the presenter`s actual content.  I only displayed the title page, but will eventually put the other layouts. again, this is just beta 1.0, i launched it to find out what users are looking for and so far everyone in the community has provided great feedback and i`ve noted everything down for v2.0.
there are reasons to my madness, first is the obvious, i`m going for volume. second my target audience is primarily college students and small businesses. third if a customer needs a "custom custom" layout for their business the cost would be different.  there is more to my business plan that i cannot divulge publicly that will help me generate revenue.
    thanks

Kind of like some companies that create and distribute free scripting programs .... it may help lead to custom applications which they can make their real money from.
