What to look for in a Background Screening Firm

Ever employer has his (or her) criteria for hiring new employees. It is very important, therefore, that the employer select a professional background screening firm that will meet the companies needs as well as protect it`s security. I suggest that you look for the following:
Full Service background programs that include verification of identity, criminal and civil records, driving license record (where DPPA appropriate) professional license, previous employment, resume and education verification.
Certifies that all information sent to clients is in complete compliance with all applicable laws, Federal, state and local.
Response time meets their client`s hiring needs.
Is willing to work with your HR department or person responsible for hiring.
Does background checks on their employees.
Has a program in place that defines their firm`s process for protecting the client and applicant. destroying and protecting the privacy of sensitive data.
Has the ability to go to collect information form court houses when appropriate to meet the clients needs.
Has a clearly defined pricing and payment schedule that is agreeable to all parties.
Is willing to provide the client with legally compliant release forms for client and applicant.
WOW, that is a lot to look for! Where to start? A licensed private investigation agency that conducts background checks is a good place...don`t be fooled the "information vendor" that sells background information at a cheep price. Be hiring safe, not hiring sorry.

There are numerous screening firms in the US and Private Investigators who will also help. However, the last thing you want is an online service. That is because this is an area that is heavily regulated by federal and state laws. This is not a "do-it-yourself" endeavor. It requires the assistance of a professional. You need to make sure any firm you use is a member of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (www.NAPBSS,com). In addition, you may also want to look to see if they have joined http://www.concernedcras.com/ which is a voluntary high standard. For information on how to select a screening firm, a sample Request for Proposal (RFP) or how to audit your current screening firm, see information at http://www.esrcheck.com/ESRadvantage.php
The sample RFP is at: http://www.esrcheck.com/backgroundscreeningrfp.php and the article on how to select a screening firm is at:: http://www.esrcheck.com/SelectingBackgr ... ngFirm.php
Hope that helps.
