Different Companies or All in One?

As we enter into online distribution of our products, I`ve been
thinking about something. Is it better to have different aspects of the
business (manufacturing, distribution, etc.) performed by different
companies that we would own, or keep all business functions in one
company?

Eventually I plan to distribute products other than just those we make.
Plus it seems to me there is more security by not having all our eggs
in one basket.

Any thoughts?
