Anyone in Texas know what the purpose or advantages of having a DBA are?

A DBA allows you to do business under a name other than your own, which is generally a good idea for branding purposes.

For openers, if you want to open a bank account in any thing other than your own name (e.g. John Smith ) then the Bank will want to see a DBA filing or some entity paperwork (incorporation papers + Federal EIN )

Great Answerers - I think they would apply anywhere you are. In short, Texas or any other state you will need DBA for a business bank account. And in TX, (Austin) anyway the red-tape, (filing process) is easy and cheap for a sole proprietor.
