I am a full-time police officer, and one thing that I would recomend: Owner ID number. This number is either applied by engraving, permanent marker, or a custom sticker <like those used by govt` agencies>. This number is then documented by yourself so when/if something comes up missing you will have another identifying mark to say that product is yours. Many times the officer can enter that number in as such and it will increase ability for LE to identify.
Its great that we all have to do this, but it increases your chances that the wonderfull person who "borrowed" your items won`t find/or be able to destroy your identifying number.
