What is email marketing?

I have read about email marketing as a profitable business but do not have much of an idea about it. Can anyone explain it to me please and how it is beneficial? How can email marketing be done easily? Please give me some suggestions on it, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

For email marketing to be profitable you essentially need two things:
1) A list of email addresses of people who are interested in the niche that you're operating in.
2) Products or services to sell to those people.
You can't just bombard people's email accounts with sales pitches though. You need to provide value to them also, in terms of information and advice.

When thinking about email marketing it's essential to understand your audience and your customer base. I regularly send out to a database of 10,000 which I have segmented down to about 50 different target audience segments - some of these segments may only have around 100 email records associated, however by making the segments really targeted there is a high probably of selling a product or service. Email marketing is a numbers game, however it's not a case of bombarding your email contacts with emails, it's a case of providing them with the type of content that they want when they want it, so it's really important that you understand your audiences, have personas established before you even start.

Totally agreed with that idea, lot of people in the web digital seems to think that email marketing is dying but its not. With retargeting and big data, its getting more and more easy to send the right email to the right person. With big data, its only gonna grow in my opinion
