Distributor Pricing

Hello all, I am somewhat new to this forum. Our graphic designer suggested
that I use this as a resource since she finds so much great advice here.

I am currently marketing 2 lotion products. I have approached a few local
retailers who would like to carry the product. I have been told by them that
they are looking for products with a 40% margin, which is definitely possible.
But my question is, if retailers are looking for 40%, then what sort of margin
is good for a distributor that would possibly sell to the retailer?
