One question I am frequently asked is, "how much does it cost to get a patent?" A similar question is, "how much would it cost to make my car engine stop making that clicking sound?" The answer is, "it depends." What does it depend on? It depends on the amount of time it will probably take.
One question I usually ask in return is "how much money do you think your idea would make you over a period of 20 years?" If the answer is, "millions" then price shopping for exclusive patent rights is a bit short sighted. Obviously, nobody wants to pay more than necessary.
