Using last name [surname] in business name



 



One challenge that some business owners come across is the difficulty in using their last name as part of the business name.  The problem is registering their surname as a trademark.  As an example of how challenging that can be, see the recent case involving automobile pioneer Gottlieb Daimler.  The federal trademark registration of the term [surname] Daimler was recently denied.  See In re Jaguar Cars Limited, Serial No. 77035168 (
