Twitter customer service as marketing tool?

We are a brand new classifieds start-up and we were playing around with the idea of servicing our users via Twitter whenever they have a question or need help. Whats your view on this?
I find Starbucks twitter channel really inspiring - its a great customer service concept, although perhaps too tricky to put into practice for an internet business.
Twitter is generally used as a promotional tool for most business, rather than customer service. What is your experience?
