Trademarking your own name

Hi, My question is regarding trademarking a clothing line. If you were to use your birth first and last name for your "brand" name or even your child`s birth name, would you have to trademark that as well? I know the logo I would definitely have to trademark but I`ve read somewhere that you did not have to trademark your birth name if that`s what you were using. ?!?!?
