Develop a course in-house and market it outside

I work as a trainer in a large firm.I would like to develop courses for the firm but also retain the copyright and the right to market them to the general public.Any advice on how I might approach this?Thanks,Craig

    In most cases as an employee they own the fruit of your labor. It seems
    to me that the best approach is to just ask for what you want. One
    thing to keep in mind before you ask; make sure the person you`re
    asking has the authority to say "yes", otherwise you`re sure to get a
    "no".
