Where to get the information of businesses?

Hi,
I want to launch a portal for my city. But just want to find out how to get the information about various resouces in my city.
Basically, I want know how to get the information of businesses like Hotels, Restaurants, places to visit etc.
I am affiliate to known hotel booking engine service provider so I think I can get the hotel information from them.


Now about the restaurants as I have contact details of few restaurants, should I start contacting them directly.
If yes how should I contact them (ie by phone, e-mail, newslettter, etc)?
Any ideas welcome.

Hi Jatin,
Start by going to the local chamber of commerce or town hall.  These two facilities will have some of the business listings.  You can also go to you local Google directory, McCabe business directory, etc. for listings.

The Chamber is a Great place. Depending on what type of info and if it is just name, location, address and website then you can get this from online directories as well. If you are interested in a specific database let me know we offer quite a bit of them.

You can also check with the Mayor`s office in your city and also your local tourist information center. Your state gov`t may also have some resources for you to include as well.
