It depends on what kind of people you are dealing with. 
If the person is an honest critique and has an eye for that, it does not matter whether he or she is a stranger or a friend; the person is really going to help you.

If the critic is objective and knows what he is talking about he is always more valuable than any fan! Look at it as a learning experience and a chance to better yourself.
