Traffic is generated in lots of ways. Firstly have a website that meets Google's quality guidelines such as mobile friendly, fast to download and information first (as oppose to big useless images). Be sure all pages are markedup and have good meta-tags which are relevant to the page. Images help, but really only if appropriate.
Then get started on content. Research key terms to write your content around. Start with terms that are low volume (or not highly searched), so it is less difficult to rank. Research what the students, parents or teachers are searching for. Also write interesting content, and spell check!
Once you have some good content you've got great things to share on social media. Use YouTube and create 'how to' videos as well.
Constantly check the site/s for crawl errors too. As the site grows there are bound to be some.
It takes years to build up good traffic. Above all keep at it!
