Well, that all depends on the project's volume. Sometimes it's 4-5 sometimes only one (if it is a book, for instance)

@John Morris, I think one to three per month is the right number as well. You don't want to be overwhelemed, but you also want to be keeping busy.

I take somewhere from 1 to 3 projects per month. This month has been weirdly hectic. But I managed to edit 3 books, and write some articles for a travel agency.

@grayson, it seems one to three projects per month is the sweet spot for freelancers. I'm sure it depends on the scope of each project and the time and resources that needs to be allocated to each. One big project could take up somebody's entire month, while another freelancer could get down 10 minuscule projects in 30 days.

I have a handful of clients who provide me with regularly recurring projects throughout the month. Occasionally, I'll get a one-off project but what I really want is to cultivate relationships with clients who'll bring me work regularly because they trust me and they know I'll do a great job and make them happy every time.

It certainly depends on the project, naturally. When I get hired for just the day to shoot video of a wedding, I'd happily take 8 projects per month. If it's a project that requires a few different shoot days, plus a day or two for the edit, then I'd only want to take on 4 or so per month so that I can give the proper attention to each project.
