I've used alibaba and communicated through Skype for manufacturers. Also try google, there are ton of local manufacturers who are dying to earn your business.

I struggled with the same problem and aliexpress and alibaba were not useful. Either that or I'm too uneducated to understand how their business works. But thats just me

Etsy, eBay, Alibaba are the nice websites to look for local manufacturers and to contact them easily.
