Are there situations when registering things like your trademark, company name, logo, etc. with the state is enough? Is it ok to just go the state route immediately as you are just getting started?

Trademarks are only at a federal level as far as I know. Incorporation is at a state level

If you want to register you logos with trademark and copyright, Go to relevant dept of your states, Usually intellectual property organization have multiple offices in a country but they work combine like if you register your trademark at regional office it will also get registered in country.
